Saxony-Anhalt: AfD wants to boost tourism with “Pride Pass”

Magdeburg. The AfD parliamentary group in Saxony-Anhalt wants to replace the state's advertising campaign with the slogan "#modernthinking" with the motto "#deutschthinking." "This is intended to establish a fundamentally affirmative, unburdened, respectful, and appreciative approach to German history," states a motion to be considered in the state parliament.
The aim of the campaign is to promote various tourist destinations and themes. Among other things, there are plans to introduce a "Pride Passport." The stamp card will offer discounts at historical sites.

In addition, prizes for historians, art, philosophy, and literature will be awarded, recognizing achievements "that demonstrate a contribution to the confirmation or further development of German identity." A logo featuring a German flag pointing downwards to the right is proposed.
The AfD in Saxony-Anhalt repeatedly attempts to link cultural policy with German history. In recent months, the parliamentary group has, among other things, called for a "Street of the German Empire" and described the Bauhaus as a "deluded path of modernism."
The state government is currently not planning any changes to the state campaign "#modernthinking," a spokesperson for the Ministry of Culture said in response to an inquiry. The idea behind the slogan is based on the appreciation of great ideas developed in Saxony-Anhalt over the past centuries. The campaign also promotes UNESCO World Heritage sites.
